In June we held our third series of free seminars for solicitors in Shrewsbury, Worcester and Stafford. As specialists in Professional Indemnity insurance with many years’ experience in placing cover for solicitors, we enjoy engaging with and briefing our local law firms about issues which are impacting them on a day to day basis.
The topics we covered were:
As Cox Mahon are one of the SRA’s panel of specialist PI brokers invited to participate in its ongoing consultations on possible changes to its PII Regulations, we briefed the room on what the SRA is trying to achieve, the changes that may arise and the impact that changes could have for law firms.
We analysed the data held, compared the claims made by area of legal practice, looked at the potential changes the SRA may make and the subsequent reaction by the Law Society. Find out more about this on our blog ‘SRA’s Consultation on proposed changes to Solicitors’ PII‘.
One of the Midlands’ leading solicitors, Paul Bennett, Partner at Aaron & Partners LLP, delivered an interesting presentation about current ethical issues which are impacting on law firms.
We had a jargon-free discussion about the key cyber threats faced by law firms today and considered the most practical steps that firms can take. At our seminars at Shrewsbury and Worcester, our speaker for this topic was Dr. Clive Stainton, Director of CyberQ Group, a Risk and Resilience professional with over 25 years’ experience of global Programme Management in Cyber Security and Operational Risk.
Chris Woods, Director of the award-winning CyberQ group, took us through the topic at our Stafford seminar. Chris previously managed elite security teams at the European Space Agency, HP and Fujitsu.
Jack Eastwood, Senior Underwriter, AIG Europe Ltd explained what Cyber insurance will actually cover and what it won’t, when the worst still happens and your system is paralysed by ransomware or hackers have stolen client data.
We received excellent feedback from our attendees about the event, with everyone agreeing that it was an enjoyable event and that were they were likely to attend another Cox Mahon seminar or recommend it to their colleagues.
Our next seminars will be held in the Autumn. Please contact us if you wish to be invited, or update your preferences on our Privacy Form.
