Doing Our Bit For Midlands Air Ambulance Charity

Did you know that the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity (MAAC) need to raise £9m in funding each year?

Cox Mahon are delighted to announce they will be supporting Midlands Air Ambulance Charity (MAAC) in this target, as their chosen Charity for 2019!

The MAAC is responsible for funding and operating three air ambulances serving the communities of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands. This constitutes the largest air ambulance operating region in the UK. They also operate three rapid response vehicles and a critical care car in the Birmingham area.

Since 1991, they have completed over 50,000 air ambulance missions, making them one of the longest established and busiest air ambulance organisations in the UK.

The operating costs of such a service are substantial. Each air ambulance mission costs an average of £2500. However, the MAAC do not receive Government or National Lottery funding. The £9 million needed per year to stay operational is donated entirely by the general public and businesses across the six Midlands counties they serve.

This funding need, together with the great work that MAAC do to bring together local businesses and people with their fundraising events, is why Cox Mahon have decided to support this fantastic cause in 2019.

One such fundraising event held by MAAC is the Bike4Life Ride Out and Festival starting at Meole Brace, Shrewsbury on Sunday 28th April – just down the road from our Shrewsbury office!

This year’s event schedule also includes a Walk4Life, Amazon Jungle Survivor Challenge, a Red Devils Sky Dive, Race Day in Worcester and the Annual Recognition Awards and Charity Ball at the NEC, Birmingham.

On Thursday 28 February 2019, MAAC were kind enough to invite the Cox Mahon team to RAF Cosford to visit the West Midlands Air Ambulance HQ. We enjoyed their hospitality and learned more about the worthwhile things that MAAC do. We also saw the helicopter land on its return from an emergency and met the pilot, who gave us a guided tour of the helicopter plus a demo of its parking equipment.

We are finalising our fundraising plans with Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and of course, we hope you can support us in our attempts, which will be a mixture of business and fun social activities!
